Creativa Grand Ensemble
Jazz is, above all, music in permanent evolution. That is why the School of Creative Music, a classic in our programmes, has decided to take a quantum leap forward in JAZZMADRID this year and to bring to the stage a formation with well contrasted skills and standards: the Creativa Big Band.
Directed by saxophonist, flute player, arranger and composer Patxi Pascual, the Creativa Big Band is made up of some two dozen musicians, all of them students taking the Official Higher Degree in Jazz Interpretation and Modern Creative Music. They are, therefore, performers who already have one foot in the professional world.
The band, which goes beyond the classic formation to incorporate woodwind instruments, guitars, choirs and keyboards, presents a repertoire focused on contemporary compositions, with pieces by Snarky Puppy, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Maria Schneider, Gordon Goodwin or Bob Mintzer.
This repertoire of well-known pieces also includes original compositions, breathing a breath of fresh air into the traditional proposals that most big bands offer up in our country. And, if the concept is in every way laudable, just wait until you hear them! Their solidity will leave the audience more than convinced.
