Since the turn of the millennium, musical experiments in hip-hop, soul and jazz have never ceased to evolve. Today one of its greatest exponents on this continent is the British producer and musician Alfa Mist, whose tours leave no doubt as to how popular his compositions are.

Alfa Mist was born in Newham, a suburb of East London, where he took his first steps as a hip-hop producer.  Given the phenomenon that his compositions represent today, it is worth remembering that those days still echo in some of his influences, through artists such as Little Brother, 9th Wonder, Kano, J. Dilla and Hi-Tek. Then came the piano, which he began to teach himself, and the ever-present Miles Davis. And Hans Zimmer’s cinematic work.

A little over five years have passed since Alfa Mist released his first album, Antiphon, and since then, as he has gained fame and success, the musician’s evolution has been evident, moving further and further away from conventional jazz. This has allowed him to reach a wider audience.

In 2019, he began working on a project called 44th Move with percussionist and producer Richard Spaven. The name refers to Deep Blue’s 44th move in the second game against Garri Kasparov in 1997.  The 44th move evokes the moment when Kasparov realises that he is up against a superior intelligence (Deep Blue).  They released their eponymous debut EP in April 2020.
