Rarely has an album so brilliantly encapsulated the sound of Miami’s Latin community: Coral Way (2023), the new album by Cuban pianist Alfredo Rodríguez, is the perfect excuse for him to bring his quintet to Villanos del Jazz. He is accompanied by Michael Olivera on drums, Carlos Sarduy on trumpet, Yarel Hernández on electric bass, and Elif Sánchez on vocals.

The album, a portentous mix of Latin pop, timba, salsa, bachata, tango, reggaeton and bolero, offers an integrating vision that celebrates the unity of all these genres and the cultures they represent, and features vocal collaborations from Cimafunk and Alana Sinkëy.

It is also a product of time: this musician, heir to the talents of giants such as Keith Jarrett and Thelonious Monk, nominated for a Grammy in 2015 and championed by Quincy Jones ever since he blew everyone away at the Montreux Festival in 2006, has been living in Miami for the last four years.
