Jazz is, above all, music in constant evolution. That is why this year, the School of Creative Music, a classic in our programmes, is once again determined to bring to the JAZZMADRID stage a formation with well contrasted skills and high standards: the Creativa Grand Ensemble.
Under the direction of the saxophonist, flautist, arranger and composer Patxi Pascual, this band is made up of two dozen musicians, all of them students at the Escuela de Música Creativa who have enrolled in the official Contemporary Music and Jazz Performance undergraduate course. They are, therefore, performers who already have one foot in the professional world.
The band, which goes beyond the classic line-up to include woodwind instruments, guitars, choirs and keyboards, presents a repertoire focused on contemporary compositions, with pieces by Snarky Puppy, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Maria Schneider, Gordon Goodwin and Bob Mintzer.
This repertoire of works that will be familiar to all audiences also includes original compositions that bring a breath of fresh air to the traditional offerings of most big bands in our country. And, if the concept is in every way laudable, just wait until you hear them! Admission to the ensemble is part and parcel of the syllabus of the official Contemporary Music and Jazz Performance undergraduate course, and the audience will once again be thoroughly impressed by the solidity of their arrangements and their performance.
