FATOUMATA DIAWARA

This Paris-based singer-songwriter, vocalist and actress from Mali is one of the most fascinating artists in contemporary popular music. Her latest album is the thirteenth of her career. Its title, London Ko (2023) derives from the fusion of London and Bamako and is intended as a tribute to the richness of miscegenation. It is in fact a reinvention of traditional African music, in collaboration with experienced musicians such as Damon Albarn (Blur, Gorillaz), Angie Stone or the Cuban pianist Roberto Fonseca, and younger ones, such as the Brooklyn Youth Chorus, the Ghanaian rapper M.anifest and the Nigerian Yemi Alade, the new voice of Afrobeat. A new immersion in an eclectic, intense and avant-garde universe that confirms the creative pulse of a woman who draws indiscriminately from Afrobeat, jazz, pop, rock, electro and even hip-hop. The fact that she has been nominated for Grammy Awards and Victoires de la Musique (French Music Awards) are just a few indicators of her infinite talent, which has been forged over the last two decades.
