Japan’s Takuya Kuroda’s roots are obviously in jazz, but his silky and refined formula has always been characterised by his ability to combine soul, funk, Afrobeat and a few other spicy ingredients in the same discourse. Well versed in the New York scene, where he has worked with José James, Akoya Afrobeat and Badder (DJ Premier’s band), and has been associated with prestigious record labels such as Concord and Blue Note, the Japanese artist touches down at the Piñata Music Series to continue distilling the essence of his latest and seventh album, Midnight Crisp (2022), which confirms the hybrid nature of his infallible alchemy in six new tracks, and also to revisit other milestones in his discography.
