THE CAVEMEN

The Cavemen are a Nigeria duo formed by bassist Kingsley Okorie and drummer Benjamin James, both passionate followers of the highlife tradition, a musical style born from the fusion of jazz and traditional African music. Indeed, the title of their second and latest album was a clear allusion to this style: Love and Highlife (2021), and along with its predecessor, Roots (2020), which won the Headless award for best alternative album, it established the pair’s reputation as excellent ambassadors of their country’s music, as respectful of its tradition as they are attentive to contemporary trends.
