Yamandú Costa’s seven-string guitar is an eloquent instrument in its own right. A state of mind. A feeling. The Brazilian musician is a true virtuoso and an outstanding composer. Raised in a family of musicians, he made his first stage appearance – as a singer – at the age of five. His father gave him his first guitar when he was six, and at 21 he won the VISA Instrumental Prize, the highest award in Brazilian music at the time, which allowed him to record his first solo album.

He hasn’t stopped since then: he has released thirty albums and given concerts all over the world in all kinds of formats: as a soloist, with other musicians or with symphonic orchestras. The recipient of numerous awards, his career has been influenced by musicians such as Radamés Gnattali, Baden Powell, Tom Jobim and Raphael Rabello, and styles such as bossa nova, tango, milonga, samba and chamamamé. He has often shared the stage with Bobby McFerrin, Toquinho, Gilberto Gil, Melody Gardot and Marisa Montes.
